Wyoming hunting application checklist (WGFD)
Last checked 2026-10-23. Unofficial guide — the Wyoming Game and Fish Department (WGFD) is the authority; always confirm on WGFD before you apply.
Check the year. WGFD’s dates table lists month and day only, with no year. Confirm current dates on WGFD’s Application Dates & Deadlines before you plan around them.
Before you apply
- ☐ Make (or recover) your WGFD username and password — every applicant needs their own, youth included. Don’t create a second customer record: points can be lost (WGFD: Application process).
- ☐ Have your date of birth and the last four digits of your SSN (or TIN/passport number) ready.
- ☐ Know whether you’re a resident (WGFD residency rules).
- ☐ Nonresident elk, deer or antelope: decide special or regular (what’s the difference?).
- ☐ Pick your first, second and third choices. Your points only count for your first choice — use our odds planner.
- ☐ Applying with friends? One person creates the party and shares the party ID.
- ☐ Have a card ready — WGFD charges the full license fee plus application fee up front; read WGFD’s refund policy during the application.

After the draw
- ☐ Check results on WGFD draw results.
- ☐ Didn’t draw? Nonresidents: buy an elk/deer/antelope preference point in the point-only period so you don’t lose your points (how points work).
- ☐ Look at leftover licenses: WGFD leftover licenses.
